Research Fields

Independent scientific committees apply for the Pfizer Research Prize Award in the following five research fields

Cardiovascular Medicine, Urology and Nephrology

Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology and Immunology

Neuroscience and Neurology

Oncology

Pediatrics

Award

The Foundation Pfizer Research Prize specifically supports young scientists in Switzerland. The prize money of over 6.8 million Swiss francs has already benefited 438 awardees. This long-term commitment, which is unique in Switzerland, thus sustainably promotes young talent and makes an important contribution to medical research.

Prize Money

30,000 Swiss francs are available annually per research field (150,000 Swiss francs in total). This is split between one award for a research project in pure research and one in clinical research. The prize money for each award is thus 15,000 Swiss francs.

Jury

The Foundation board is the supreme body. It awards the research prize based on applications from the scientific committees, who assess the projects independently. The Foundation board can forgo awarding a prize in a given field of research if the scientific committee does not deem any of the projects that have been submitted to be worthy of the prize or the number of qualitatively good projects is too low. This decision made by the Foundation board cannot be appealed against.

The scientific committees are made up of leading scientists from Switzerland and are currently chaired by the following individuals:
